We are a family of two grown men, one college age nephew, and four standard poodles. When Geoff and I first became a family in 1995, Geoff also came with two dogs, one a standard poodle named Tucker. Every since then, we loved the breed; we acquired Maggie in 1998, Toni in 2006, Bella in 2007, and Trudy in 2008. We kept Dutch who is now being shown from our first litter born March 12, 2010, from Bella and Turbo.
It’s true: once you own a standard poodle, you will not own another breed of dog. Standard poodles are….
-
The most intelligent of dogs and easily trained.
-
Less hair shedding.
-
Affectionate, but not overly so.
-
Playful, fun, and good humored.
-
Good watch dogs.
-
Great show dogs!
-
Athletic and capable of sporting dog skills.
-
Family oriented.
Standard poodles require regular grooming, exercise, and social interaction. They need to be an active part of family life, and just like any family member, they need some daily attention and exercise. Of course, there are some different individual characteristics among the breed that make each dog unique.
We decided several years ago that we would like to breed standard poodles, show ones who qualify, and sell the other puppies to responsible and caring homes.
Turbo (Ch Avion Turbulence) and Bella produced our first litter of puppies. We anticipate having one or two litters a year for each of the next several years in our small breeding program for top quality show and companion dogs.
Our commitment is to total responsibility in breeding standards. To get to this point, we have had much mentoring and assistance from Dr. Cynthia Huff of Safari Standard poodles as we purchased both of our breeding bitches from her. Cynthia has bred top quality standard poodles on a solid record of pedigree and health for over 40 years.
Total responsibility means we only breed healthy dogs with completely cleared health checks—no compromise. It means we will only breed dogs who show excellent temperament consistent with the breed: “that of a very active, intelligent and elegant appearing dog, squarely built, well proportioned, moving soundly and carrying himself proudly…. The Poodle has about him an air of distinction and dignity peculiar to himself..” We will breed for top show quality dogs as we plan on a future with our puppies winning in the show ring.
