why standard poodles?

We are a family of two grown men and eight Standard Poodles.  When Geoff and I first became a family in 1995, Geoff also came with two dogs, one a standard poodle named Tucker.  Every since then, we love the breed.

It’s true: once you own a Standard Poodle, you will not own another breed of dog. Standard Poodles are:

  • The most intelligent of dogs and easily trained

  • Less hair shedding

  • Affectionate, but not overly so

  • Playful, fun, and good humored

  • Good watch dogs

  • Great show dogs!

  • Athletic and capable of sporting dog skills

  • Adventurous

  • Family oriented

Standard Poodles require regular grooming, exercise, and social interaction. They need to be an active part of family life, and just like any family member, they need some daily attention and exercise. Of course, there are some different individual characteristics among the breed that make each dog unique.

We decided several years ago that we would like to breed Standard Poodles, show ones who qualify, and sell the other puppies to responsible and caring homes. Because we are show breeders, our Standard Poodles are top quality, beautiful representatives of the breed with careful attention to health checks and pedigree. Most people will not be able to discern a show puppy from a companion puppy as they are often very similar.

We plan on one-two litters each year, most likely during the spring.

Our commitment is to total responsibility in breeding standards. To get to this point, we have had much mentoring and assistance from Dr. Cynthia Huff of Safari Standard Poodles as we purchased breeding bitches from her. Cynthia has bred top quality Standard Poodles on a solid record of pedigree and health for over 40 years. We have also purchased beautiful, good-tempered, and healthy bitches from Grandeur Poodles, California, and from Kandansk Poodles, Canada, both with outstanding records and reputations.

Breeding responsibly means we breed healthy dogs with cleared health checks from a pedigree history of normal dogs. It means we breed dogs who show excellent temperament consistent with the breed: “that of a very active, intelligent and elegant appearing dog, squarely built, well proportioned, moving soundly and carrying himself proudly…. The Poodle has about him an air of distinction and dignity peculiar to himself.” We breed for top show quality dogs as we plan on a future with our puppies winning in the show ring.
